The paediatric neurology service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides neuromuscular services for the Lancashire and South Cumbria region. There are currently around 100 children with neuromuscular disorders in Lancashire under the care of Dr Christian de Goede, a consultant paediatric neurologist and the trust’s neuromuscular lead.

The neuromuscular service is based at Royal Preston Hospital. In addition to Dr de Goede the team includes a specialist neuromuscular nurse, physiotherapist, clinical psychologist and occupational therapist. The Neurology Department works closely with neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neurosurgery and neurorehabilitation to diagnose and treat all types of neurological conditions

There is also a Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) which is part of the services offered by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The SMRC provides specialist wheelchair, prosthetic limb and orthotic rehabilitation services throughout Lancashire and South Lakeland for people of all ages with long-term mobility problems. The Centre has won the prestigious Customer Service Excellence Award six times. This is a Government award, which recognises excellence in the delivery of public service.
