Our MDUK Muscles Matter 2021 online seminar series continued on Thursday 29 July with a seminar on diet and nutrition for people with muscle-wasting conditions.
We were joined in our diet and nutrition seminar by dietician Angela Reddy and Neil Patel who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Angela discussed the importance of regular nutritional monitoring, maintaining a balanced diet, feeding tubes, respiratory assessment for PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy) insertion and proactive intervention.
Neil who lives with Duchenne gave his insights and experience on tube feeding, having already had a PEG fitted recently. This was followed by a Q&A which covered questions on nutritional needs, losing weight without losing muscle, chewing fatigue and more.
You can watch the full recording of the diet and nutrition seminar above or on our YouTube channel.
Throughout the year, there will be seminars in our MDUK Muscles Matter 2021 online seminar series, including condition-specific sessions, practical sessions such as financial support and psychological care to help you live well, and seminars looking into ways you can manage your condition such as cardiac management or university.
You can find out more about the seminar series, see the full list of seminars and book your place on Zoom on our Muscles Matter page.
