"Eben has always stood out from the crowd – he was born with a full set of hair and started talking from an early age, even able to make animal impressions from the age of one. He has a magnetic personality and makes friends with everyone.
"From Eben’s earliest years, NHS teams have been attempting to understand why physical tasks like crawling, walking and lifting are harder for him. At two and a half years-old, we were finally given a diagnosis. It was a day we had been waiting for but one which was hard to face. Ullrich congenital muscular dystrophy (UCMD) affects the skeletal muscles, which means that even if Eben learns to walk, he will lose this skill in early adolescence. He is also likely to face respiratory issues, and scoliosis later in life. We contacted Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) two days after the diagnosis. The helpline team were fantastic. They took us through the support they could offer and how we could access services. We’ve connected with other families through their Muscles Matter coffee mornings and online support groups."

"Getting the diagnosis was a huge shock to everyone but Eben continues to be our inspiration, we’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from the people around us, including MDUK, and this gives us the determination to make a difference for Eben’s future and everyone living with UCMD. As they say, every little helps, so please play the MDUK raffle if you can – it will help so much. Thank you."
