Alison Porter’s sons William and Thomas, from Chorley In Lancashire, have both been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT).

As with all muscle-wasting conditions CMT is a rare condition affecting an estimated 23,000 people in the UK. Although the condition does not affect life-expectancy, it is important that its symptoms are managed. CMT damages the nerves in the legs and arms, known as the peripheral nerves. It slowly gets worse over time and causes the muscles in feet, lower legs, forearms and hands to waste.

William and Thomas decided to face their condition head on and recently took part in a Junior Para triathlon event in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. The event consisted of a swim, bike ride and a run with distances varying based on age groups.

Mum Alison says,

Wow, what a great event! I am super proud of my boys – the weather was amazing and William and Thomas had a great time. They managed to raise an incredible £632 in sponsorship for Muscular Dystrophy UK! If anyone would still like to sponsor the boys their Just Giving page is at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Alison-Porter11″

Thank you William and Thomas from everyone at MDUK and well done on your achievement – great job!
